The club was started in 1965 by John Bird from Bassingbourn, who was at the time also the Bassingbourn Football secretary, among other activities that John was involved in.
Having trained at the club since 1967 myself I eventually took over the running the club in 1980.
The club has had many successes over the years in the various aspects of Judo and associated Budo arts, many Seniors having achieved Senior Coach Awards and reached Black Belt levels. In the Junior section, many have passed the Junior Coach Award and more recently have also studied Judo as a chosen activity within their GCSE in physical education, and some have taken Judo as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
For many years now the club has held Annual Awards at the end of the year, which has been both rewarding for the children taking the main awards and very encouraging for the other members of the club to strive for an award the next year.
