THE RAMBLERS’ ASSOCIATION
ROYSTON AND DISTRICT GROUP

“ROYSTON RAMBLERS”

The Ramblers’ Association is Britain’s biggest walking charity, the only one dedicated to:

  • Promoting walking for everyone as a healthy, fun, inexpensive activity
  • Safeguarding Britain ’s unique network of public paths
  • Increasing opportunities for responsible access to everyone to our beautiful open countryside
  • Protecting the countryside and green spaces from harmful and polluting developments
  • Educating the public about their rights and responsibilities, and the health and environmental benefits of walking so that everyone can enjoy our wonderful heritage

We receive no direct funding from central government and are entirely dependent on the generosity of our members and our supporters.

The Ramblers’ Association is divided into Areas and within each Area are a number of Groups each organizing its own programme of walks. The Royston and District Group is one of seven Groups within the Hertfordshire & North Middlesex Area. The Royston Group welcomes prospective new members who may come on two or three walks before deciding to join. To join ask for an application form or join on-line at www.ramblers.org.uk Children under 16 years old are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.

The Royston Group is a small friendly group. Normally there are three walks each week, an all-day walk on Sunday, half-day walks on either a Tuesday or Thursday (sometimes on both days) and between the end of April and the end of August we have evening walks on a different day each week. The shorter evening walks (3-5 miles) are an ideal introduction to walking whilst the half-day walks (5-7 miles) should be within the capabilities of many). The all-day walks vary from 8 miles to an occasional 15 miles. There is a great deal of very beautiful countryside around the Royston area sadly unknown to many who never go for a walk.
