ROYSTON & DISTRICT SPORTS COUNCIL NEWS

SPORTS FAYRE

We have agreed with Richard Allan, Manager, Royston Leisure Centre, to promote a Royston Sport Fayre on Sunday April 15th 2007, from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

We would like as many member organisations as possible to participate. We envisage that there will be facility for demonstrations by club/ school members, come and try for visitors and stalls displaying the activities of the member organisations.

With your help we shall endeavour to distribute promotional leaflets to all homes in Royston and many of the surrounding Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire villages.

The programme could include indoors display stalls in Reception Area and Sports Hall and performances indoors and outdoors on nearby grass area. We shall seek permission of Meridian and Greneway Schools to use some of their play areas, if necessary.

Thoughts: We will include the 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. workout by the Royston Shotokan Karate (When you have your normal booking. O.K. Peter?). How’s about a one lap run around the fields or Twigden footpath? (Runners would you be prepared to organise?) Can we have a range of water activities like a family swim relay say two adults and two siblings under 16 or some other preferred combination? Is it feasible to have a canoe experience? Can there be a life saving experience? Can BMX show off its skill over an improvised course? Would Derek Coult kindly organise some ‘self defence’ as well as his usual judo work and try out? In other words can we be positive and imaginative and ensure every club plays a part please! Can we devise some school event(s)?

We have in mind having a hot refreshment stall.

Can I urge you to give the event your full support so we make a big demonstration of what we offer and have achieved?

Booking Form attached.

WHY BE A MEMBER OF ROYSTON & DISTRICT SPORTS COUNCIL?

Our Sports Council is held in high regard and acts as an advisory body to North Hertfordshire District Council and the Royston Leisure Centre.

We have argued the case successfully to ensure our members gain access to facilities in the district.

We promote activities to assist our members, e.g. Child Protection Advisory courses, Seminars on Fund Raising & Sponsorship & Managing Your Club.

We manage the Royston Sports Quiz and the Sports Fayres.

We lobby when the need arises. How do you think we got a Leisure Centre?

We are keen to see a floodlit All-Weather Area in town?

We have supported our clubs in applying for Lottery Grant.

We presented support to the Royston Town Football Club’s appeal to the Government Inspector to develop the Ivy Farm land for a new Football Stadium. We shared the Club’s disappointment in the rejection. We shall fight with the club again, when the time is right.

We shall soon have our own web site to promote our programmes and initiatives.

So there is much to gain from being an active member. Can you please check that your club treasurer or school finance manager has paid the 2006-7 £5 subscription? It needs to be forwarded to Bev Turner, RDSC Treasurer, 10 Lime Grove, Royston SG8 7DJ, as soon as possible.

NEXT MEETING

We next meet on Wednesday, March 14th for the 2007 AGM followed by a General meeting, at Greneway School. Hope you can join us.

Chairman
