Royston Cricket Club was founded over 200 years ago in 1790. The Club is currently in the process of acquiring land to develop its own playing facilities in the Royston area and, in the meantime, the Club's cricket is played at the Recreation Ground in Therfield village. Royston CC, despite being located in Hertfordshire, is currently affiliated to the Cambridgeshire Cricket Board with the first team playing in the Cambridgeshire Cricket Association Senior League Division 1 and the second team in division 3S(b).
Although the club has ambitious long term plans, as winter ends and spring begins all thoughts turn to the upcoming new season. As well as running two adult teams on a Saturday, the club is looking to re-introduce a full programme of Sunday cricket this season. The club has one of the best-run youth sections in the whole county, with teams playing competitive cricket at Under 11, 12, 13 and 15 age groups this season. It is hoped that a Sunday cricket programme will help many of the older and better youngsters make the step up to adult cricket.
Royston CC has been named as an ECB Focus club and is well on the way to achieving the nationally recognised "Clubmark" accreditation, which means that parents can be assured that their youngsters are learning and enjoying the game of cricket in a safe and supportive environment.
The Club runs the Keatley Cup, a well known knock-out tournament that regularly attracts a large number local clubs, with Royston once again hosting the Cup Final in July.
